- Wedding invitations are sent out eight to ten weeks before the respond date to out-of-town guests, to give them enough time to make hotel reservation and arrangement for travel.
- Wedding invitations to local guests are sent out two to four weeks before the respond date.
- Envelopes should be handwritten in black ink. Never typed.

- The inner envelope is left unsealed and addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. Jones," without first names or addresses.
- A respond card, with self-addressed, stamped envelop, is sent to each guest along with their invitation. The purpose of a response card is to compel a guest to respond within a specific time frame.
- The response card is also designed to inform you of how many people will be attending. Never ask for the number of guest on a card, or you may be surprised by the results.
