Home Tips > Tips By Category > Tips you can implement daily

If someone has possible internal or back injuries, do not move the person unless you are a qualified medical person. You could do permanent harm to the victim, even cause death.

Do not attempt to rescue a person who is pinned under fallen timbers unless you are certain you could do so safely.

Do not lose your composure during and after the disaster. Hysteria serves to make matters worse, seldom better.

Do not make any hasty deals or agreements. Call the Chamber of Commerce or Better Business Bureau before agreeing legally to any repair or rebuilding work.

Do not accept a FEMA loan. The money you receive will be allocated to you in gradual, small amounts.

Do not report private donations or other sources of income when you apply for state emergency funds unless you are required by law to do so.

Do not pay anyone in cash for building material, unless you can get a satisfactory receipt.

Do not accept an insurance pay-off as final until you have checked the results.

Don't agree to buy supplies unless you lave established a return agreement with the company.

Do not let a builder buy materials on a charge account that is in your name. If you must do so, sit down with the builder each time a bill arrives and double-check to see that you received everything you bought and that everything you bought was used in your house.

Once agreed upon a price, do not let a builder charge you more, unless you have asked for changes that would increase the cost of the project.

Do not give over the responsibility of a job to builders, but spend as much time as you can on the site, double-checking the work.
