Test all vehicles, start the lawn mower and tractor to see if they are all running.

Rent or obtain temporary storage space as soon as you can. Trailers can be packed on your property and then locked securely.

Make notes of strange vehicles that drive past your house more often than reasonable. Looters may be scouting for the best houses to hit.

If you have pets, arrange to shelter them, unless you can take them with you.

Remove food from your freezer and rent storage space in a freezer locker locally.

Try to get children returned to school as soon as possible. The sooner their lives return to near-normal the better off they will be.

Try to have someone at the house site during daylight hours. Many helping organizations will not know your names or needs, and they do not know where to contact you. This will also cut back on the probabilities of looting.
